about us
Howard Marks has been in and around the music business for almost 30 years. Having started life in the music business at the tender age of just 17 years old, Howard has been successful as a music promoter in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and was responsible for promoting several hundred hit records for record companies such as Virgin, CBS, EMI, Warner Brothers and many of the independent record labels in the UK. Although Howard has successfully promoted a whole genre of artists, his most notable success has been with Rod Stewart, Jon Cougar Mellancamp, Eddy Grant, Shaggy, Boy George & Culture Club, Ian Gillan, Sex Pistols, Stranglers and numerous reggae and dance artists. He is currently working alongside Andrew Strong from The Commitments.
Howard has been broadcast trained for radio by Essex Radio and has had his own programmes on Spectrum International and had a weekly show on Central FM for over five years, and guested on BBC Radio London several times. He has also done various voiceovers for television and radio. Thanks to his experience on live radio, Howard has been able to act as Master of Ceremonies or compare for live functions and shows. Unlike most function disc jockey's, Howard Marks entertains many popular, public figures and, as a former player in the music industry, is called upon by many friends of old, such as The Music Publishers Association and in October 2002, Howard also supported the legendary rock 'n' roll singer Chuck Berry. When former Rolling Stones bass guitarist Bill Wyman has his yearly party at his Sticky Fingers restaurant in London, Howard is the only disc jockey that he calls upon to entertain his celebrity guests and when Bill opened his Manchester branch of Sticky Fingers, Howard performed at the opening ceremony, alongside Boy George.
With a vinyl collection of some 20,000 records and 10,000 CDs, our music library is being constantly updated in order to cater for every type of client or function. Clients never have to worry that their guests will not enjoy the music as we take requests, ensuring the client and their guests enjoy the function. Former drummer, Howard offers live percussion, both at your table or on stage whilst DJ'ing. This enhances his show and quite often, his guests will participate, with Howard often showing people how to play Conga drums and interacting with the audience. We always play music to please the crowd. Our promise to you is an enjoyable and memorable evening for yourself, and your guests.
We can entertain your wedding, barmitzvah, batmiztvah or batchiel, any birthday for any age, planned or surprise, graduation celebrations or any excuse for a party! We can provide music from any era, including 1920's-current, pop, rock, dance, classics, Elvis to Eminem or The Carpenters to Kylie and can fulfil any request, whether you plan the playlist yourself or leave it to Howard, or even just your first dance. The discotheques rigs range from small and tame light and sound to large and loud - it depends on what suits your needs and the size of your chosen venue. As an added bonus, Howard also plays live percussion at your table and can also provide star studded backdrops (please enquire for prices). We guarantee a successful function every time and Howard can entertain your guests in a full dinner suit, if so desired.
